The title of the exhibition THERE ARE NO MORE COCKCHAFER is borrowed from a well-known piece of music from 1974 by the songwriter Reinhard Mey. In the song, Mey looks nostalgically at the newly built parking garage that replaced the houses of an old neighborhood. Based on this song, the exhibition addresses how utopian modernization and urbanization projects in Marl and around the world have fallen out of time.

Although the awareness of what is past and perhaps lost is present, THERE ARE NO MORE COCKCHAFER is not a nostalgic exhibition. Rather, it is about emphasizing and celebrating the resilience and creativity of life that continues despite unfulfilled promises and shattered dreams. With sculptures, sound installations, videos, performances and workshops produced specifically for the exhibition in Marl, the exhibition space of the Skulpturenmuseum is activated and connected to the surrounding urban landscape.

THERE ARE NO MORE COCKCHAFER opens on Sunday, November 12th, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the Skulpturenmuseum Marl. Museum director Georg Elben speaks introductory words in conversation with Prof. Mischa Kuball.

Participating artists:

Thilo Brämer, Bidisha Das, Mathilde Hawkins, Johannes Hoffmann, Helin Sezen Korkmaz, Tatsiana Licheuskaya, Mary Mikaelyan, Alexandra Nikitina and Leila Orth.

The exhibition was developed as part of the "urban stage" seminar by Prof. Mischa Kuball at the Cologne Academy of Media Arts. It is being realized with the help of the Freundeskreis Habakuk.
